EOF Promise Award
Q: Does the EOF Promise Award really cover everything the first two years? What about the last two years?
A: Yes, the EOF Promise Award covers tuition, fees, room, board (meal plan), books, and insurance for your freshman and sophomore years. There is an EOF Incentive Scholarship that students can be eligible for based on their accumulated credits and cumulative GPA. This scholarship will automatically be awarded to students who meet the criteria.
Q: What do I have to do to receive the EOF Promise Award?
A: Students who decide to enroll at The College of New Jersey in their EOF program will receive the EOF Promise Award as long as they continue to meet the eligibility requirements for the NJ Tuition Aid Grant (TAG). Please respond to all mailings from the College and the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA) to ensure all documentation is submitted.
Q: What else do I need to know about this award?
A: Students who enroll in the EOF program at TCNJ must reside on campus during the summer program and traditional school year as a requirement of the Promise Award. All students must also complete additional questions from the Higher Education Student Assistance Authority (HESAA). Register here to ensure you have completed your questions: HESAA.org
EOF Summer Program
Q: When does the summer program begin? When will it end?
A: The summer program will run from Saturday, July 7th through Wednesday, August 8th, 2017.
Q: I’m trying to complete my health forms and can’t log in to OWL, what am I doing wrong?
A: Students can begin compiling health records to forward to the Health Services office by June 1st. You will not be able to log in to OWL until a TCNJ email account has been created for you and that won’t occur before the end of May. Q: How will my roommate be selected? When will I know who it is?
A: Roommates for the summer program will be selected by the EOF program staff and all students will be notified of their roommate before the end of June.
Q: What about weekends? Will I have to stay on campus?
A: Students must remain on campus the 1st and 4th weekends. The 2nd and 3rd weekend, students may make travel arrangements to leave campus. (Departure time based on student’s class schedule)
Housing & Meal Plans
Q: Will I have to room with my summer program roommate during the school year?
A: No, students have the opportunity to complete a housing questionnaire which will be used by the Residential Education staff to select a roommate for you. There is a place to choose your roommate on this questionnaire although there is no guarantee that you will be placed with that student.
Q: Which meal plan do I select?
A: EOF students must select meal plan option “B”, as this is the plan that is covered by your Promise Award.
Accepted Students Day, Orientation, Major Change, Scheduling Classes, Placement Tests
Q: What is Accepted Students Day? Do I need to register for this event?
A: Accepted Students Day is a day to celebrate your awesomeness. It is designed to help you decide where to enroll or reaffirm your decision to enroll. You will have the opportunity to meet other prospective incoming students, talk to faculty in your academic department, and get any final questions answered that will help you make your decision. You do not need to register for this event and more information about ASD will be emailed to you soon.
Q: I applied for ________ major but was accepted into another major. Can I change it?
A: EOF student applications are considered for all majors indicated on their applications. If you were accepted into an alternate program it is because you demonstrated academic preparedness for that particular program. If you decide to enroll, you can apply to change your major after successful completion of foundation courses for the intended major.
Q: Do I have to take placement tests? If so, when will I take them?
A: There are placement criteria for writing, math, and foreign language. Below you will find information about each area:
Foreign Language
Placement tests for Foreign Language can be taken online in the following languages: French, German, Italian, Latin and Spanish. If your intended major requires a foreign language and you have not scored greater than a 4 on AP exam in that language, you are required to take the test for that language. If you intend to pursue a different language than the one you took in high school, you do not need to take a placement test for foreign language.
Writing
WRI 102 is a writing instruction course designed to prepare students to successfully meet the demands of the writing intensive curriculum at TCNJ. Some students are exempt from the course through SAT, ACT or AP scores. The following scores will place you out of WRI 102:
• SAT scores of 580 or above in BOTH math and critical reading
• An ACT composite score of 26 or higher
• An AP score of 4 or higher in English Literature, English Composition, US History, or World History
Math
Students will take placement tests for math on the first day of the EOF Summer Program. Students need at least a 650 math SAT score or a 29 ACT math score to enroll in Calculus. Students with a math SAT score in the 600-640 range or a math ACT score of 27 or 28 will be enrolled in Pre-calculus but can request to be placed in Calculus. Students with a math SAT score in the 550- 590 range or a math ACT score in the 24 – 26 will be placed into Pre-calculus. Students with a math SAT score lower than 550 or a math ACT score lower than 24 will be placed into Intermediate Algebra.
